CyberSpyder Link Test Description

CyberSpyder Link Test is a Web site management program. The program can be used to verify if the URLs on a site are not broken and to analyze site content. CyberSpyder Link Test is designed to be used on sites of all sizes: it works at the same parameters for both very small personal sites with a few pages, and very large corporate sites with thousands of links. Main features: Configuration stored in a database. Multiple configurations possible by using multiple databases. Database names and locations user selectable. Can configure URLs to be excluded from the test. Can be configured to check only `home` site URLs. Can enter ID and Password to check protected URLs. Can be configured to test URLs in drop down lists. Can configure to use Proxy servers. Netiquette considered. Can control speed, identity, and use of the `Robot exclusion protocol`. All test results stored in a database. Size of site tested limited only by disk space available for the database. Test can be interrupted and resumed from the stopping point at a later time. Tests interrupted for any reason (user choice, lost connections, power failures, computer crashes, etc.) can be resumed from the point of interruption. Data stored from a previous test can be used to speed up the next test of the same site, since pages that have not changed do not need to be retrieved and parsed again. Reports available as HTML pages, printed, or directly `on screen` from within the program. Test Result Reports can be produced automatically at the end of a test, by manual selection for a partially completed test, or by manual selection any time after a test is completed. Location for HTML report pages is user selectable. Multiple sets of reports can be in the same reports directory. (A Report Manager in the program assists in managing these files.) Test Result Reports allow optional custom selection of items on which to report (so `good` links can be listed). Test Result Reports can be broken into categories (Broken, Skipped, etc.), or all items can be listed together. Test Result Reports can be sorted by Page URL, showing `problem` URLs, or by `problem` URLs or result codes, showing the Page URL. Analysis Reports permit the analysis and examination of a site in a variety of ways. The reports include: Site File Structure Report to show the site file structure so that the physical structure of the site is readily visible. Site Map Report that is similar to the file structure report, but only lists the URLs that represent HTML pages. Cross Reference Reports to provide a cross reference for the site, listed either by page showing contained links, or by links showing the pages containing them. Page Size Analysis Reports to analyze the total size of a page (where the total size is the HTML page itself plus all of the images contained in the page. What's New, What's Old Reports to help determine items that have changed or items that have not changed. One useful thing that can be done is to check any link to another site that has changed to ensure that it still points to the expected data. These reports can also be used to generate What's New lists or pages for a site, or to determine content that has not changed for a long time. Browser can be launched from the program to view the HTML reports. Extensive `help` file included. (Actually this is an online manual.) Built in provision to run at a scheduled time (delayed startup). Provision for command line startup (useful for scheduling routines). One button click to check for CyberSpyder Link Test updates and CyberSpyder site news. Support for HTTP/1.1 and modified HTTP/1.0 servers. (Uses the same logic as Netscape and Internet Explorer in building requests to send to the server.
