Conductivity Description

Conductivity is a physics simulation model dealing with electricity. More specifically, the application illustrates the concept of conductivity. To do so, it uses a simulation that shows a circuit, and a measurement instrument to see how much energy goes through it. The circuit is made up of a power source, in this case a battery, and some wiring. The negative and positive ends of the battery are connected to wiring, and on both sides, the wiring connects to another material. By default, this material is metal, but you can change it to plastic or to a photoconductor. We know that metal is conductive, i.e. electricity can pass through it. Plastic is not a good conductor. And photoconductors need to be in contact with photons (light) for them to be conductive. The whole idea of this simulation is for you to see how the electrons flow through a circuit that is made of conductive materials. When adding plastic to the circuit, electrons stop moving, and the energy levels drop. If you add a photoconductor to the circuit, electrons won't move unless you add light to the circuit, which you can do by checking the "shine light" button. José Fernández Editor rating:
