Change Fast Description

The Change Fast application was designed to be a command line based program that lets you jump to directories by just typing the name of the directory (the program will find the whole path and will change to the directory). There are hundreds of programs like this out there and this DOS program is kind of obsolete now, but I decided to put this program on this page anyhow because it was my first long running programming project. Let's say you're in the C:DOS directory and you want to go to C:GAMESMYGAMEB Normally you would type "CD " - "CD GAMES" - "CD MYGAME" - "CD B". Yes, it's also possible to type "CD GAMESMYGAMEB" but either way it's quite a lot of typing. With CF you'll never have to type more than the directory you want to go to (in this case "CF B"). Ok, it IS true that there are a lot of programs which do about the same as CF, so why CF you may ask. First of all you must scan the current disk, so CF can create a datafile which is used as a lookup table with all directories on the current disk in it. CF uses this file to find the location of the directory you want to go to. Scanning is done by running CF with the option /S (=Scan). You have to scan each drive on which you want to use CF. You can do this by going to each drive and run "CF /S" or you can specify a drive with the /S command (e.g. "CF /S D:"). After scanning, you just run CF with the directory to go to as a parameter (e.g. "CF DOS"). You can also type part of a directory by adding the * character (e.g. "CF DO*"), this is very useful on 'difficult' directory names such as 1#BS-1.B (just type "CF 1#B*" here !). CF will allow you to go to any directory on any scanned drive from any drive (phew, you got that ?). What I mean is that if you are on drive C: and want to go to a directory on drive D: (which has also been scanned by CF) then just name the directory and CF will take you there ! An example: if you want to go to D:GAMESFIFA and you are in C:DOS, you can just type "CF FIFA" and CF will do the rest. If you know on which drive a certain directory is located then you can also type CF (e.g. "CF D:GAMES"). When adding a drive letter you will force CF to search the specified drive only. The advantage of this is that searching takes less time. You might also want to use this option when you want to specify the directorynumber of directories with the same name on a specific drive (see chapter 2.2 for information about directories with the same name). global usage: CF options: /S : Scan drive /P : Goto previous directory /U : Unscan drive /I : Show info on scanned drives
