AutoPatcher Vista Description

AutoPatcher Vista is an alternative to Microsoft’s Windows Update for Vista Operating Systems. Compared to the service provided by Microsoft, AutoPatcher has the advantage of being able to perform the updates offline. Users who run Windows but lack an Internet connection cannot benefit from the Windows Update process, since this service connects to Microsoft’s servers to identify and download updates. On the other hand, not having the latest hotfixes installed may result in serious security vulnerabilities, which makes computers prone to all kinds of malware infections. For this reason alone, the AutoPatcher collection was rolled out. It’s a large set of software applications that provide Microsoft updates for OSes from Windows 2000 to Windows Vista. The greatest upside of all is that the packages can be downloaded on a different machine (with a running Internet connection) and installed offline on a computer with no access to the Internet. AutoPatcher Vista was released in July 2007 and addresses computers who run Windows Vista exclusively. The package weighs a little over 200 MBs and contains the latest updates and hotfixes issued by Microsoft itself. The installation process of the application might take a while, considering the large amount of data included in the collection. Once deployment is done, AutoPatcher Vista displays a list of all the patches, from which you can select which ones you wish to install (although it is highly recommended that you select all of them). The process resembles very much to the standard Windows Update process and requires a restart in order to deploy all the hotfixes successfully. In conclusion, AutoPatcher Vista makes it easy to get computers up to date in offline mode. Unfortunately, starting August 29, 2007, the project was ceased at Microsoft’s request and no official statement concerning this matter was released by the Redmond Company. However, there were some speculations that the decision was supposedly related to the risks that third party distributions might bundle.
