Altdo DVD Ripper Diamond is a simple-to-use program that allows you to convert DVD videos to several file types, including AVI, Flash Video, MPG and MOV. But it can also extract the audio stream and store it as AMR, M4A, MP3, WAV and other file types, as well as prepare items for Apple TV, iPod and Zune, among others. The tool comes with a user-friendly interface that allows you to import a DVD disc or IFO file by using either the folder view or file browser ("drag and drop" is not supported). In the file list you can check out the name and duration of each chapter of the DVD. If you want to leave the settings unaltered, then you can immediately initialize the conversion operation by specifying an output directory and file type. Otherwise, you can make audio and video modifications when it comes to the quality, size, aspect ratio, frame rate, sample rate, channel mode and volume level. Unfortunately, you cannot restore these settings to default. Moreover, you can preview videos in a small, built-in media player, select the audio language and separate DVD chapters for processing, as well as set Altdo DVD Ripper Diamond to either turn off the computer or to open the output directory once all clips are converted. The video encoding app requires a low amount of system resources in order to finish a task in reasonable time. It has a good response time and outputs a good image and sound quality. On the other hand, there is no help file available and you cannot specify the thread priority. The interface needs some improvements but we must take into account the fact that Altdo DVD Ripper Diamond has not received recent updates.
