AlbionXP Description

AlbionXP is a software dictionary for Windows computers. It is basically a search engine that looks for words in a database. There is really no way of knowing what the source of the word definitions is, but those seem to be pretty accurate. A simple search will give you some basic information. If there is more than one definition for the word you are looking up, you will get the meanings numbered. The application will show what kind of word it is (noun, verb, adjective, adverb, etc). For verbs, AlbionXP doesn't really show much information. You only get different meanings. You never know if the verb is transitive, intransitive, ditransitive, etc. That is one feature that this application is really missing. But there are other features to mention, as well. AlbionXP works hand-in-hand with Vocabilis, a vocabulary building software. It allows you to create word lists that you can later on use with Vocabilis. This dictionary also has a history mode, which keeps track of all the words you have looked up, which is a very smart feature. By simply selecting the History tab, you can take a look at other words you have looked up. I tend to forget words, and a feature like that is actually good to have. Graphically, the application remains simple, just like Vocabilis. The database has 145.000 entries, and, although I can't tell you about all of them, all the words I tried had reasonable definitions. If the database contained more information about word classes, this would be a killer dictionary. José Fernández Editor rating:
