The software lets you choose either individual items or entire folders by browsing or by using the drag and drop method. Furthermore, the app can wipe your free disk space. This means that the traces left on your disks by previously deleted data are permanently erased. Basically, the app is supposed to overwrite the files until they reach a point beyond recovery. This is done through a varied number of passes, depending on the shredding algorithm chosen by the user. Ace File Shredder offers two options: “Quick shred”, which overwrites the files only once, while the second runs no less than 13 passes. The latter complies with the American Department of Defense security standard. Furthermore, users can opt for the software to scramble file names and dates. Also, shredding can also be done by right-clicking a certain document and selecting the option from the menu. However, this is only available if it was previously permitted from the app’s interface.
