Spot Picker Description

Extension to the system color selector which allows you to select colors from InDesign. Spot Picker is an extension to the system color selector which allows you to select colors from InDesign swatch libraries, including spot colors. In any application written using Quartz graphics (including cocoa and modern carbon applications) spot colours are preserved in EPS and PDF output. Here are some key features of "Spot Picker": · In any application which uses the system colour picker, Spot Picker allows you to select colours from lists in the format used by InDesign for its swatch libraries. As well as the libraries included with InDesign, major ink manufacturers offer their colour catalogues for free download in this format. This means that you can use the same colours in non-Adobe applications. · Spot Picker will automatically find the closest matching colour in a swatch library. Select the colour you want with any colour picker, then switch to the Spot Picker library you want to use: the closest match will be highlighted. This means you can convert process colour to spot colour, or from one ink manufacturer to another. Note that conversion is only approximate, and accuracy is not guaranteed! · In any application which does not internally convert colours to RGB, Spot Picker automatically embeds the spot colours you use into PDF and PS output. This includes any PDF or PS generated by Quartz, such as drag & drop, copy & paste, export to file, or the "Save as PDF..." button in the Print dialogue. · If you drag a PDF or PS file produced by Spot Picker into InDesign, spot colours are correctly recognised and can be separated in the usual way. This means that you can use non-Adobe applications to generate graphics, then import them into InDesign projects without being forced to use process colour. · If you send a PDF or PS file produced by Spot Picker to a professional print agency, they should be able to print your document using the exact inks you chose. Of course, you should talk to your agency about whether they support printing from PDF with embedded spot colours. Limitations: · Some swatch libraries in Adobe format. Several of these come with Adobe CS, and more are available from ink manufacturers. What's New in This Release: · Support for Adobe InDesign CS4.
