The Smart Removal of Defects plugin SRDx is the solution to dust and scratches on your digitized pictures. When you digitize your legacy film material (slides, filmstrips, photos), you'll digitize the dust and the scratches, too. There are scanners who come with an infrared light source that scan software can use too remove dust and scratches, but that only works for slides, color film and partially on Kodachromes. Black and white film and photos can't be treated with that technology. If you re-photo your images with a digital camera, you have no access to that technology at all. Don't mind, there is a solution. The SRDx plugin is a very efficient way to remove dust and scratches from your digital photos in Photoshop. It doesn't use any blur effect; your images remain sharp and crispy. It comes with an automatic detection and correction that can be adapted to your needs. The automatic function can be adjusted with a manual rubber gum and a defect marker so that the detection intensity can be reduced or increased for certain areas. You can thus mark defects for correction that the detection has overlooked so far and exclude areas from the correction to protect image details. Working with a mask is possible as well. The automatic detection for a basic correction together with the manual tools make a very time and work efficient dust and scratch removal.
