SecureBrowse Description

Firefox add-on that clears private data when necessary. SecureBrowse is a security extension for Firefox that takes care of clearing private data (cookies, saved passwords, form history etc) when necessary.Since its primary purpose is to delete sensitive data, users should read and understand the following before using it, or should use it on a test profile.SecureBrowse is designed to automate what a normally paranoid and knowledgeable user would probably do manually anyway. Thus it allows non-technical users with the same level of paranoia to simply install this extension and get the same protection.SecureBrowse lets you- Create your own profiles. A profile is a set of choices for actions to be taken. Profiles will ideally be named after the tasks being performed, for example, "banking", or "social", or "webmail".- Create and maintain a list of sensitive sites for each profile. For example, your "banking" profile may contain "citibank.com" and "usbank.com", while your "webmail" profile may contain the usual suspects like gmail and yahoo. Please note that the default install of SecureBrowse comes with a built-in list of sensitive sites assigned to appropriate default profiles. Looking at this list will often be sufficient to guide the user in adding new sites. When a profile is in effect, you can browse only other sites listed in the same profile. Each profile has certain options. Here is a brief description of what each option does, when it is enabled for a profile and the user browses to a website in that profile.Note: The SecureBrowse addon is cross-platform and it works on Mac OS X, Windows and Linux. Here are some key features of "SecureBrowse": · Browsing History: prevents Firefox from saving any URL accessed during that session in the browser history. · Saved form history: prevents Firefox from saving form data entered while that profile is in effect. · Saved Password: prevents Firefox from saving any username or password entered in any website relating to that profile. · Cookies: Deletes cookies acquired during that session when the user exits the profile. · Authenticated Sessions: authentication data is deleted when the user exits the profile. · Cache: the browser's cache is cleared at the end of the secure browsing session. · Disable JavaScript: disables JavaScript across the browser when the profile is in effect. · Close Tabs: closes all currently open tabs for websites not in that profile. This happens as soon as you open a website listed in a secure profile. The tabs will reopen when you exit the profile at the end of the secure browsing session if you use the "Close Tabs Temporarily" option. · Taken together, all these options reduce some of the convenience of letting the browser store your credentials. As everyone knows, security and convenience are always at odds with each other. Requirements: · Firefox: 1.5 to 3.0 What's New in This Release: · Add-on compatible with FF 3.0.* version
