Associate keywords to your files Spotlight is nice to search by keywords, but doesn't let you associate arbitrary keywords to your files.One cause for that might be that Spotlight is based on the wonderful Mac OS X 10.4 tool specialized on retrieving files based on keywords and metadata.With Branding Iron, you can mark your files and get the most out of Spotlight and Smart Folders. Imagine you want to label a dozen of files as belonging to "Project Brinkman". The traditional way to organize them is to put them in a folder called Project Brinkman But now, with Branding Iron and Spotlight, you can just mark them, store them in whatever folder or hard disk (for example, by category: Accounting, Budget, Engineering, Artworks, ...) and then create a Smart Folder called "Project Brinkman". Automagically, your files will be here. You can move them, modify them, rename them. They will be marked forever. Limitations: · Branding Iron overwrites the Spotlight Comments field. So don't use it to store other information or it will be erased when the file is marked. · Files in an encrypted disk image (like when File Vault is activated) cannot be marked. · One keyword per file. Future versions could manage multiple keywords ! · Read-only files cannot be marked. · Files moved or renamed from the command line may loose their keyword. If you use the Finder, no worry.
