AltiProject Description

An easy to use project management software. AltiProject is a powerful project management program. It enables professional project managers, independent contractors or DIY enthusiasts to plan projects and tasks, estimate costs and measure project performance.AltiProject can be used to manage many types of projects, ranging from industrial or construction projects to DIY home improvement, gardening, event and party planing.AltiProject is able to run on Linux, Windows and Mac OS X and is using the Excel spreadsheet file format in order to export project data and enable team work. This way, project managers can exchange project files with other Windows, Mac OS X and Linux users and can interact with project participants using mobile devices such as the Blackberry, iPhone or any other e-mail enabled device capable of reading and writing Excel files. Here are some key features of "AltiProject": Project Schedule and Budget: · AltiProject has two important views that help with project and task planing and estimating budgets: a tasks table and a Gantt chart. In the tasks table you can see and edit all the tasks and their parameters while the Gantt chart shows a clear view of how tasks are layed out in time. · When dealing with a large project with many tasks, seeing them all in the tasks table or in the Gantt chart can be quite confusing and hard to work with. This is why AltiProject contains a powerful filtering feature that enables you to have uncluttered view of your project. You can filter by task status, schedule status, work type, materials, workers or managers. · AltiProject automatically reschedules project tasks each time a relevant parameter changes. This works in conjunction with defined task dependencies. Suppose you have a project scheduled and a bit leter you decide to assign another worker to a task. When doing so, AltiProject will calculate the task’s new end date, given the new manpower, and then adjust every other task that depends on it, directly or indirectly. An not only your project is being rescheduled, but all the reports and analysis too. This way your project is always up to date and you always get accurate project information. · Not only does AltiProject automatically schedule your project, it also estimates the budget. Based on the amount and cost of work, the amount and cost of materials and expenses information you entered, AltiProject estimates how much it will cost you to execute your project. · In AltiProject you can specify that a task depends on one or more precedent tasks. This is a powerful feature which helps with automatic project rescheduling of floating tasks and with maintaining project integrity. When automatically rescheduling a project, a floating task’s start date is set either at the project’s start date, if the task doesn’t depend on any other task, or to the business day that follows the latest end date of the preceding tasks. · To ensure accurate planing AltiProject defines a holidays calendar and lets you configure which days of the week are rest days. This feature is very important because it enables users to adapt to any country or culture. Holidays and weekly rest days are automatically considered by the scheduling algorithm. Resources Management: · In AltiProject enables you can accurately represent your project’s structure by defining materials, work types and human resources along with cost and measurement units information. · Work types define the kind of work that must be performed in order to accomplish a task. Typical examples are masonry or painting. Work types carry important additional information such as the work unit, cost of work per unit and expected work performance information. The unit of work represents the unit in which the amount of work is expressed wile the cost per unit is an estimation how much a typical contractor would charge to perform a unit of work. Capturing cost per unit information for a work type is key to calculate a task’s estimated cost of work. Another important information that is captured by the work type is expected work performance. This parameter represents how many work units of work an average worker is expected to execute in a day and it helps with estimating the task’s end date. · Materials also carry unit and cost information. Material usage is a crucial piece of information that is attached to a task. It serves two purposes: First, material costs contribute to the total cost of the task, so properly defining materials helps with estimating the cost of the project. Second, using reports you can aggregate material usage date from all tasks and you can estimate how much of each material you will need in order to execute the project. · Human resources are central to any project. AltiProject uses human resources information to estimate the task’s end date. When you define a human resource you also define a set of additional information such as skills, availabilities and leaves. Skills are essentially work types a human resource can perform and AltiProject uses it to help you easily identify worker that can be assigned to a task. Availabilities and leaves are used in the task scheduling process, in order to determine a worker’s contribution to the task and accurately estimate a task’s end date. Team Work and Collaboration: · AltiProject provides powerful yet easy to use team work and collaboration features and it doesn’t require any dedicated server or network infrastructure to do that. Requesting feedback from task managers is as easy as sending an e-mail. · Select the tasks for which you need feedback and generate report requests in Excel format directly from altiProject. · Send Excel files by e-mail to each manager or deposit them in a shared folder on your intranet. · Each manager opens his or her request in Excel or OpenOffice and updates progress, resource consumption and spending information and then sends the file back to you. · You import the feedback back into AltiProject and you’re done! Reports and Metrics: · AltiProject provides a wide range of project metrics and analysis. You get access to cost structure drill-down analysis, budgeted vs. reported spending and resource usage, cost performance and schedule performance indexes. Data is delivered to you in both tabular form and as charts. · If that is not enough, you can export your project and its entire cost structure to an Excel file which you can import in Business Objects or other business intelligence program and perform any analysis you need.
