symTone Description

Digital image manipulation program symTone is a digital image manipulation app that uses two standard USB mice for interaction with the image. There is a carbon GUI that allows file selection using the standard system cursor, but the custom image manipulation GUI uses the extra two mice and two cursors. To run symTone, you must plug in two 3-button USB mice (the middle button is usually the scroll wheel). These must be in addition to a third pointing device (ie. another mouse or the touchpad on a mac laptop, or whatever). symTone works by asking you to select which mouse you are using with your right hand and which mouse you are using with your left hand. These mice are seized and input from them is directed to the symTone application. The other device controls the rest of your Mac desktop (and is used for file selection operations in symTone).symTone is a symmetric application, in that the two hands contribute equally to manipulating the images. The mouse buttons of the two mice are assigned in a reflective symmetry across your body. So, pressing the index finger on your right hand onto the left button of the right mouse is identical to pressing the index finger on your left hand onto the right button of the left mouse. The buttons under the ring fingers on each hand are called the outer buttons and the middle or scroll wheel buttons are called the middle buttons. The buttons under the index fingers are called the inner buttons. Requirements: · Two USB three-button wheel mice Limitations: · Only opens and saves png format · Does not resize large images to fit on the screen (and therefore it doesn't really work with large images!) · Requires a third input device (the touchpad on a laptop or an extra mouse for a desktop Mac) to operate the carbon file dialog boxes.
