A program that was designed to be used with the Apache webserver in order to detect malicious web bots Repel HTTP:BL identify friendly search engines and notifies you when it finds bad web bots such as email address harvesters or comment spammers. Repel HTTP:BL accesses the DNS blacklist registry compiled by Project Honeypot to reliably determine the type and threat level of robots visiting your server. Repel HTTP:BL can for example be used to:· Prevent malicious bots from accessing the websites.· Redirect harvester and comment spammers to a honey pot.· Use strict verification like CAPTCHA only on suspected harvesters and comment spammers rather than all visitors.· Tailor content to search engines to facilitate proper indexing.Eliminating the flood of requests often made by malicious bots may improve the performance of web servers. Preventing harvesting of email addresses may lead to less spam. Blocking comment spammers from posting may reduce clutter on blogs and message boards.
