Picture Patrol X Description

Picture Patrol X - Automatically extract pictures from thousands of Usenet newsgroups articles Picture Patrol is a program for Windows and Mac OS that automatically extracts pictures from thousands of articles posted in Usenet newsgroups. It builds huge collections of free pictures overnight, using a simple interface to replace what once was a time-consuming task with essentially some settings and a few mouse clicks. Unlike ordinary newsreaders that require your constant intervention, Picture Patrol independently downloads articles from your favorite newsgroups, decodes pictures attached to them and saves these images into the directories you set, neatly grouped by date and newsgroup. Features include: user-defined collections of newsgroups, support for more than one news server, automatic group circulation after a number of articles, minutes or pictures, freedom to choose where each collection will be stored, creation of unique filenames and protection against corrupted files, making the program quite stable.Limitations:Does not save pictures to disk without a license. What's New in This Release:news servers with way over 100,000 newsgroups can now be used without seriously slowing down the program;the time needed for decoding pictures is no longer included in the throughput calculations, resulting in a more reliable throughput graph;on Mac OS X Tiger, the Finder display of the image folders is no longer messed up by a mysterious $$TestFile$$;on Mac OS 9, double-clicking the downloaded pictures will open them in QuickTime's PictureViewer. On Mac OS X, the default application for JPEG or GIF images will now be used;on Mac OS X, the application now has the .app extension to make sure the operating system will treat it as a program and not as a Script Editor document;minor enhancements were made to some status messages.
