Jupiter Ace Emulator for the Apple Mac OS X MAce is a free emulator of the Jupiter Ace, a British computer from the 1980's, whose commercial life was short, but that was differentiated from all of the other cheap home microcomputers of the time through its use of Forth (instead of BASIC) as its ROM language. This single fact is what makes this machine still fascinating, and particularly given the rather nice implementation of a convenient editor capable of decompiling dictionary words and allowing their redefinition. Here are some key features of "MAce": · Keyboard buffering: Makes typing into the Ace a pleasant experience · Sound: At the moment only the BEEP word is emulated (i.e. 'high level') · Load and Save of dictionaries and bytes: Creates *.mad (dictionary) and *.mab (binary) files in a given, configurable, directory (defaulting to the user's home) · Dynamically resizable screen · Paste to input buffer from system clipboard · Spooling in from file: Allows rapid loading of word definitions from a regular text file · On screen keyboard · Continuously updated memory statistics (free and used memory) · Multiple Ace sessions can be open concurrently · The state of the entire machine can be snapshotted and reloaded · The Ace screen can be printed (or saved to PDF) for screenshots What's New in This Release: · Spool Out · An Ace session can be set to spool text going to the upper screen to a file · Spooling can be paused and resumed · Machine state drawer · This currently only displays the Forth stack, but is already a useful tool · Status line · Displays textual error messages and other notifications · EDIT with external editor · Allows the EDIT word to delegate editing to an external editor · User can select the tool to receive the Forth source, or leave this as the default Finder tool for text files
