LiCoM Description

An open source and web based LDAP backed contact manager LiCoM (Lightweight Contact Manager) is a web based and free contact manager backed by an LDAP server and running upon Apache. LiCoM does not try to be a complete solution for all your communication needs but rather provids editing and other usefull features for an existing LDAP server. Here are some key features of "LiCoM": · Since LiCoM connects to an LDAP server it's data abstraction is very high, yet well defined. Other tools, such as email-clients may use the very same data and no synchronization is needed. In contrast to many other LDAP clients LiCoM is able to edit entries and update them in the LDAP directory. · LiCoM uses Apache's mod_auth_ldap to authenticate against the LDAP directory. This is good because managing users is what LDAP was done for. · There is multiuser support. And by that I mean that everyone that has an entry in your address book may edit his or her own entry. This is limited to persons which were asked to review their entry. Of course, "traditional" multiuser support is available, too. · Entries may be downloaded in the popular vCard format. Other export-formats will be implemented as needed/requested. · There is no import functionality. (And, yes, this still is the features list). Use one of the many LDAP import tools. · Contacts can be organized in groups. Groups are not used for much other than being viewed as a list, but the functionality is there and may be expanded in the future.. · You can print lists of either all contacts (if you go on vacation, for example) or only a single contact group.
