Lens-stacker Description

Do you have a lot of camera lenses and other components laying around? Then why not examine all possible means of stacking them to achieve new effective lenses. Instead of buying expensive new lenses for specialized applications, combinations of existing ones could serve the same purpose. Lens-stacker is a simple and open-source application which allows user specification of a set of components and then determines the optical properties (focal length, minimum object distance, maximum magnification) of various stacked combinations. This allows the user to try alternatives or have fun achieving new effects. The combination may be specified by the user or the program can scan over all possible combinations subject to various constraints. Lens-stacker deduces the optical matrices for the specified components and then computes the optical parameters of each configuration under consideration. It is a command line program and runs on unix systems (include MacOS). It does not involve any special libraries, so it should be quite portable. There is a companion technical write-up at http://www.aplaceofsand.com/the-optics-of-camera-lens-stacks-part-1-analysis/ . The code is provided as-is. It was built as quick, utilitarian application. Though it has been tested, I make no claims that the code is particularly lovely or efficient. This said, suggestions and bug reports would be appreciated.
