Turns a loaded or drawn image into a sound sample for playback Grain Painter is a free and open source program that turns a loaded or drawn image into a sound sample for playback or saving using a technique called granular synthesis. Grain Painter can be used for producing unique and unusual synthesized sound samples.Images are drawn using the simple controls of stroke (width of pen mark),shade (black to white color value) and spray (width of random pixelscattering). An image can be saved to or loaded from a .bmp format file.Once drawn an image is rendered and then played. You may also save therendered image sound stream to a .wav format file.A "parameters" pane controls aspects of the drawing and rendering process.Parameters have the following meaning:· Stroke (1 .. 10) - Width of drawing pen in points.· Shade (0 .. 255) - Gray shade ranging from 0 = black to 255 = white.· Spray (0 .. 40) - Random pixel spray. 0 = no spray. 40 = wide spray.· Min Freq (0 .. 20000) - Lower bound frequency in hertz.· Max Freq (0 .. 20000) - Upper bound frequency in hertz.· Power (1 .. 10) - Shade strength. 1 = linear strength. 10 = shade value emphasized.· Grain Size (1 .. 100) - Size of a grain of sound in milliseconds.· Grain Density (1 .. 10) - Layer as many identical grains on top of each other offset by a random distance from 0 to half the grain size.
