Gosu Description

Open source and cross-platform 2D game development library Gosu is an open source 2D game development library for the C++ and Ruby programming languages, available for Mac OS X, Linux and Windows.Licensing Note: Even though Gosu's own source code and documentation are released under the MIT license, it uses the closed source FMOD library for sound output. FMOD is free of charge for freeware games though, and has very fair conditions otherwise. Here are some key features of "Gosu": · 2D graphics and text, accelerated by 3D hardware—i.e. blazingly fast rotations, scaling and color modulation · Sound samples and music in various formats, based on the tested & optimized FMOD3 library · Keyboard, mouse and gamepad/joystick input · Translations of the Ruby tutorial into Traditional Chinese, Spanish and French (see DocsOverview) · Installation via gem install gosu, complete with examples · RMagick integration, shown in an example game · A tutorial on how to use the Chipmunk physics library with Gosu: RubyChipmunkIntegration, written by Dirk Johnson · An example of how to use ruby-opengl to add rich 3D effects to 2D Gosu games What's New in This Release: · 2009-09-13: Added compatibility with 64-bit x86 Ruby on OS X (= Snow Leopard) · 2009-09-08: Fixed Gosu::Color#dup for Ruby · 2009-07-10: Some experimental iPhone optimizations
