FreeSG Description

Free and open source 3D engine FreeSG ("Free" as in "Free of bloat") is a portable, high-level 3D engine with an emphasis on generality. It is built on top of Agar. FreeSG is available under a revised BSD license, and it is being actively developed. Unlike most typical 3D engines, FreeSG is designed as an integrable component, as opposed to an application framework. With FreeSG, we aim to implement a set of efficient algorithms where the speed and memory tradeoffs can be adjusted to the widest possible range of applications and hardware platforms. The goal is simply to perform reliably, whether your application is a polygon-restricted game that must fit into the 8MB of RAM of a Nintendo DS, or a massive simulation that must be rendered photorealistically using fourth-generation graphics hardware.NOTE: FreeSG is licensed and distributed under the terms of the BSD License. Here are some key features of "FreeSG": · A generic, extensible scene description language. · Real-time rendering from any viewpoint, with abstraction of the low-level graphics API. High-quality graphics taking full advantage of modern GPUs and specialized hardware. · Efficient space partitioning and visible-surface determination. · An unambiguous polyhedral representation based on the halfedge structure; fast geometric queries. · Simulation features. · A generic (graph-constructive) solver for systems of geometric constraints (e.g., angles, distances), as seen in commercial CAD packages. · A physics driver for ODE, suitable for games (optional). · Generic interface allows new physics drivers to be implemented easily as part of your application. What's New in This Release: · FreeSG's specialized object system has been removed. The general Agar object system is now used for the scene nodes. · Several thread-safety fixes.
