Espresso Description

Mac web development, more productive than caffeine Espresso. Time for something new in web development.Your cup of coffee has been the thing that gets you out of bed, the smell of creativity, the taste that makes your day. Soon, Espresso will deliver something better than a caffeine boost.Your Workflow, ImprovedEspresso is not a bunch of apps forcibly smashed together. Instead, we looked at the needs of modern web developers and streamlined their workflow into one focused app. Espresso features extremely powerful editing, live preview, sleek projects, real publishing and extensive synchronization tools. All this, and an amazing extensible core? Espresso is not too good to be true. It's now in public beta. Here are some key features of "Espresso": Edit With Power and Elegance: · Why choose between beauty and power? Between features and speed? With Espresso, you simply don't choose — you can have it all. You might liken Espresso to a very unconventional chocolate bar: delicious and edible on the outside, but rock solid on the inside. Text editing for grown-ups - context sensitivity, power snippets and CodeSense: · Espresso features an immensely powerful rule-based syntax engine, CoreSyntax, that transforms your text documents into semantic structure. What does that mean for you as an end-user? Right now, we can reveal incredibly flexible syntax coloring, context-sensitive snippets and CodeSense. · Snippets in Espresso can be much more than quick pieces of text to insert into your document. Tab stops, placeholders, conditional expansions: it's all there. CodeSense is based on these incredible snippets: confirm a suggestion, and what happens next is really a snippet in action. Espresso builds a foundation to provide an amazing level of context-sensitivity — for some of you to explore through Sugars, and for everyone to enjoy. Navigator, not your average symbol list: · Looking at pure text, it's easy to lose a sense of structure in your code. Espresso has a powerful, extensible Navigator that's best compared to the CSSEdit styles list. Not simply a flat list of markers in your document, it reveals hierarchical structure and various elements in your documents. Espresso 1.0 will ship with full-featured Navigator support for HTML, XML, CSS and JavaScript built in, but Sugars will be able to provide identical functionality for other languages. Code Folding, a hidden delight: · There is more than meets the eye in the Espresso text editor. When you move your mouse over the line number gutter, a handy code folding ribbon fades in. Quickly collapse blocks of text for a more focused look at code. And the best thing? It works for any language that shows up in the Navigator. Checks your speling, too: · Of all the things you could write, messages to your users are probably the most influential. That's why Espresso checks spelling as you type in non-code contexts. Whether you're designing a site, coding a web app or writing an article, preventing a few typos is always welcome. Unlimited potential: · Although Espresso 1.0 is planned to be shipped with HTML, XML, CSS and JavaScript support built-in, Sugars can extend it to support nearly any language Limitations: · 30 days trial period. What's New in This Release: Workspace and Files: · The Workspace is now a floating section above the source list. This makes adding files much easier and preserves your current file browsing context. Its maximum size can now be adjusted. · When selecting image files, a zoomable image preview is shown in the project content area. · Open With allows you to edit/open files in external apps (from the Files context or action menu). Projects and Recents: · Projects (??1) groups your projects in one convenient location. Search through them for easy finding. To quickly recognize important projects, customize colors and shapes. · Recents has been split into separate menus for documents and projects. History menus have been streamlined so that they offer a more useful view of previously opened documents. Find: · Find in Project. Woohoo! · Find functionality now floats above the source list like the new Workspace to reduce scrolling. · Quick Filter now dims intermediate directories so that matches stand out more clearly. Edit: · Smart Paste (traditional Paste: ??V) adjusts indentation and line endings of pasted text so it fits optimally in the surrounding text. · Snippets are now indentation-aware and support more advanced constructs like shell commands. Nearly all TextMate snippet syntax is now directly supported in Espresso snippets. Publish: · Publish To lets you quickly publish files without needing to use one of the Sync modes (from the Files context or action menu). · Permissions for new files and folders can be adjusted in the new Transfers preferences for improved server compatibility. · The maximum number of parallel server connections can now be limited in the advanced options of each server. · Publish settings are now much better at indicating whether or not your password is read from the Keychain. · Stability has been further improved, and Espresso should behave more reliably when connections go idle. Forget-Me-Not: · Espresso used to be a little forgetful, but now remembers more state all over the application. · Projects save their position and size, as well as the expansion state of source sections and the file browser. · Documents save the expanded state of Tools. The text editor saves its previous selection as well. · Spelling check is now an app-wide setting, so it no longer needs to be toggled per document. Sugars: · The included version of TEA is now 1.1 (thanks Ian Beck!) · Indentation awareness options are now part of the Text Action API. And much more: · We made tweaks, fixed bugs and optimized code in nearly every part of Espresso, so you will enjoy a further improved user experience.
