Echolot - Sniff ARP packets on ethernet network devices and store them in an IPTraf-compatible database Echolot is a network station monitor. It sniffs ARP packets on ethernet network devices and stores them in an IPTraf-compatible database. These unique addresses could be used to find known hosts on any LAN (a popular FTP server at a LAN party), or to find unknown hosts on a company LAN (such as intruders).Every network interface controller (NIC) has a world-wide unique MAC-address. If computers are connected over a local area network, they will exchange those MAC-addresses to identify each other.Echolot collects this MACs, tries to resolve a name for each host and stores them in a database. Now, you can easily find already known computers, you can find intruders in your companies network and no one can hide.Echolot is designed to compile and run under any POSIX system (OS X, Un*x, Linux, xBSD, ...).NOTE: Echolot is licensed and distributed under the BSD License.
