An easy to use Mac application that lets you burn CDs or DVDs BurnX Free has the advantage to create sessions, erase and create an hybrid discs for compatibility with other platforms. Because it lets you create sessions, you can burn the disc as many times you want so it is great for backup (CD only).BurnX Free lets you burn as many smaller volumes to the disk as you like until the space is all used up. That makes it perfect for doing incremental backups as you work on projects. When you use a multisession CD each session will mount as a separate volume on your desktop.What CD recorders are supported? Any CD/DVD recorder supported by Apple in your running Mac OS X version. How many sessions can I put on a CD ?Burning a session uses up about 15 megabytes in addition to the size of the image you are burning, MacOS has some limits on the number of sessions it will mount. These are not hard limits however and may vary on your system but you could burn as much as 20 sessions. If you want the disk to be able to reliably mount under OS 9 you should limit yourself to 9 or fewer sessions on a single disk. In addition, the more sessions you have the longer they will take to mount on your desktop. Can I use Rewritable media? Of course you can, there is no practical difference between a recordable and rewritable disc.With a CD-RW you can burn as many sessions as you want and then erase the disk if you want to start from scratch, please remember that you cannot erase only one session, the erase will completely remove all the data on the disc.Can Windows machines read my discs? BurnX Free uses the Disc Recording Framework provided by Apple. Because of a known issue in Disc Recording Framework, it will allow Windows users to read the first recorded session, you should keep this in mind if you are preparing a disc to be read on a Windows machine. If you make a DVD, multisession is not available, the disc is always finalized so it will be perfectly readable on Windows.
