Arrow Description

An elegant, powerful interface to your e-mail accounts Arrow is a free e-mail program that was written to address the e-mail needsof users migrating from Mac and Windows to Linux. Arrow currentlysupports viewing, composing, and organizing of e-mail, including securee-mail via PGP, POP access, and a spell checker.cpr in descr: Arrow is not just another single window mail reader. Instead, Arrow will display each message and mailbox in a separate window, thereby allowing one to simultaneously open as many mailboxes and compose and read as many messages as one wishesThis paradigm also allows one to use drag-and-drop to transfer text between messages and to organize one's mail by rearranging messages within a mailbox and moving messages between mailboxes. The ability to automatically monitor an unlimited number of inboxes fed by a procmail script significantly eases the burden of managing one's daily correspondence because each inbox can be devoted to a single topic. Here are some key features of "Arrow": · Reading mail · Sending mail · Address book · Access mail on POP servers, including those using APOP. Session management: · Automatically saves the state of your workspace, including unsent messages, when you quit. · Saves even if the X server crashes. Multiple Document Interface: · Once Arrow is running, all subsequent invocations pass their parameters to the server. This provides protection against accidentally opening the same mailbox in two different windows. · All configuration done via dialog windows instead of config files · Configurable button toolbars · Hypertext on-line help · Manage your "to do" lists with NPS Notebook · System G provides a graphical interface to the file system · Designed to work with multiple virtual desktops and both Click-to-Focus and Point-to-Focus. · Support for scrolling via wheel mice · Supports Drag-and-Drop (XDND), Direct Save (XDS), and XSearch protocols. · Customizable menu shortcuts (by editing string database -- a graphical editor is planned for later) · Full support for European languages · Easy translation to other languages without the need to recompile the source · Works with Gnome and KDE session managers. What's New in This Release: Major changes: · Attachments are now supported. They can be sent and received. Attachments can be viewed by double-clicking on them, and they can be saved by simply drag-and-dropping them onto any XDND (http://www.newplanetsoftware.com/jx/dnd.html) compliant file manager (like SystemG (http://www.newplanetsoftware.com/systemg/)). · Multiple accounts are now supported. This allows you to maintain several accounts. When a message is received from a particular account (via POP) Arrow will remember from which account it was received, so the proper settings will be retained when resonding to it. The specific preferences available to each account have been somewhat modified from the previous version's single account. · Mail filtering is now supported. Mail filters sort your mail as it comes in according to conditions that you provide. This feature is extremely useful in managing large volumes of e-mail. Minor changes: · Added a drag button in the message view window that lets you drag the current message to the Mailbox window. · The reply status of a message is now indicated in the main message window. For example, if you reply to a message, the icon corresponding to reply will be displayed to the left of the message. · Creating a new mailbox or directory in the Mailbox window is now more straight forward. If you first select a directory, then selecting New mailbox or New directory will create the appropriate item in that directory and allow you to edit the name. If you first select a mailbox, the new mailbox or directory will be created in that mailbox's directory. · Some SMTP bugs were fixed that prevented mail from being sent to some servers (namely Yahoo (www.yahoo.com)). · Fixed an outbox error that wrote partial outbox messages if there was an SMTP error. · Added editor options regarding whether or not to copy text when selected, and whether or not the home/end keys should move the cursor to the beginning/end of the line. · Fixed a bug that didn't save all of the window prefs. · All file locking is now done with lockfile, because of NFS and other network issues. · Fixed a few address book bugs, and changed the shortcut for removing items in the addressbook from Meta-R to Backspace.
