39 Peers Description

39 Peers is a free and open-source Internet telephony software that uses the Session Initiation Protocol (P2P-SIP) in Python. The importance of peer-to-peer systems is that they have high scalability, fault tolerance and robustness against catastrophic failures because there is no central server and the network self-organizes itself. Internet telephony can be an application of peer-to-peer architecture where the participants locate and communicate with each other without relying on expensive or managed service providers. The 39 peers utility was designed to provide a open source and free-for-all peer-to-peer network targeted towards open standards based real-time communication.Furthermore, the 39 peers project is developed for student developers and researchers to experiment with new ideas. 39 peers supports open protocols such as IETF SIP and RTP. Detailed instructions on how to install and use the 39 peers utility on your Mac are available HERE.39 peers is cross-platform and it works on Mac OS X, Windows and Linux.
