sonar GNU/Linux MATE is an open source distribution of Linux derived from the Manjaro operating system, which in turn is based on Arch Linux, and built around the old-school MATE desktop environment. It is an official edition of the sonar GNU/Linux distro, suitable for computers with old and semi-old hardware components. It’s distributed as 32-bit/64-bit Live DVDs The MATE edition of sonar GNU/Linux is distributed as Live DVD ISO images designed for computers supporting either the 32-bit (i686) architecture or the 64-bit (x86_64) hardware platform. Both ISO images are hybrid and can be deployed to DVD discs or USB thumb drives of 2GB or higher capacity. The distribution can be installed on a local disk drive. Boot menu à la Manjaro Linux When booting either of the Live DVD ISO image from the BIOS of a computer, users will encounter a boot menu that is similar with the one of the Manjaro Linux distribution. From there, you can start the live system with free or proprietary drivers, boot from the local drive, run a memory test or view details about the hardware components of your computer. MATE has a traditional look As mentioned, MATE is used for the default graphical session of this special sonar GNU/Linux edition, providing users with a traditional desktop environment that comprises of a single taskbar located on the bottom edge of screen, from where users can access the main menu, launch apps, interact with running programs and cycle between the four virtual workspaces.
