nMod nBody Modelling Toolkit is a software to run experiments in the field of nBody modelling on a normal home computer. nMod nBody Modelling Toolkit is a software to run experiments in the field of nBody modelling on a normal home computer. This means modelling asteroid/comet motion, spacecraft flight, planetary systems, or small galaxy systems/collisions.The toolkit contains a Particle Particle nBody model, an OpenGL viewer to display the output of the nBody model, and a number of utilities for generating new projects and editing existing output files. Who should use the nMod Toolkit?It has been used for undergraduate and post graduate research and as a hobbyists tool. Over the past few years I have had emails from people entirely new to nBody modelling who have started using nMod as well as Graduate students incorporating aspects of nMod into their own work. The recent revisions to the user manual should make getting into nBody modelling without prior knowledge a little easier.Operating systems currently supported are Linux and Windows XP, with OSX support coming when I find someone with a Mac who can lend a hand. Vista support is not available as yet, as while I have a Vista machine available I haven't had time to properly test all of nMod.nMod comes with a default project which represents the solar system as it was on the 24th of august 2006. I have included Point Mass representations of the Spacecraft Voyager 1 and 2, and Pioneer 10 and 11. They are as close to their real positions as I can get them, and should closely approximate their real trajectories when the system is iterated.I am always interested in new project files, so if you build an interesting set of particles and send me a copy I'll place it on the site. At the moment I don't have any additional sample projects available for download, I'm working on some new files, but that takes time.Reference Builds are provided for the nbody model and the viewer. These can be used for simple experiments, but more advanced work (such as using evolutionary algorithms to discover an optimal orbit for a spacecraft) will require the creation of a separate application. The reference builds should be a good starting place for such work. Tutorials to assist in this are being developed, and will be added to the user manual soon.
