Synergy Linux Description

A KDE 4 /Qt 4 Based Linux Live Distribution Synergy Linux is a KDE 4 /Qt 4 Based Linux Live operating system based on current Fedora releases. The Point of Synergy Linux is three fold:1. Offer a more classic KDE Desktop experience in look and feel, yet still with the updated functionality of KDE 4. This is mainly expressed through the default plasma configuration using folder view by default (icons directly on the desktop not as widgets/plasmoids). Also it should be noted that nepomuk is disabled by default, primarily to save memory while running in a live environment.2. Offer cutting edge KDE 4 releases that may not be offered yet for Fedora proper or other distributions. Thanks to Rex Dieter at Fedora we can pull in these packages.3. To run on my NetBooks allowing them to be “real” computers. I have a EeePC 701 that I run Synergy on for which I am always keeping the little guy in mind. This has lead to some patches to the current Fedora LiveUSB installer. We offer our own version properly named Synergy LiveUSB that no has an option (still in alpha) to install the current live system files onto the SSD of the EeePC, allowing a compressed system that is much more efficient on the EeePC’s 2-4GB SSD. Also with the older smaller netbooks in mind applications in the future may be chosen to enhance their functionality as well.Development on Synergy Linux can be fast paced at times and other times quite slow. The pace depends on a three factors (in order):1. Time2. Testing3. FeeddbackYou can contact us on the Forums to give feedback.A little more current information..So far it has a few things that are kinda different about it with the current releases.1. It has the Ability to install “Live” like a Live USB Key or LiveCD but it can do this on the first device /dev/sda1 no matter what media it is. I use this to save space on my EeePC, 3G of Programs compressed to 580M helps a lot.2. Also I am using Fedora’s KDE testing repository which I have found for the most part to be pretty stable. So there’s always the latest version of KDE on the builds3. In themeing I lean towards Green and not Blue..4. Even though it’s KDE I use Gtk Based Claws-Mail as a client because I am disabling Akonadi and Nepomuk (and Mysql) in the Live environment. Though there’s some visual issues with this it’s smoothed over pretty well using Oxygen-GTK as the default theme.5. Unlike Fedora 15 and in the future 16 I did not raise my memory requirements to 640M (768M for Fedora 16), it’s still 512M and runs fairly decent at 512M. What's New in This Release: · This now issues in a feature freeze. Pretty much all the install features etc.. will be frozen unless too fix major bugs. Some things have changed in this release, we went with a greener icon theme. Maybe a little much but it was fun. There are now various defaults that are now created when users are, that are meant to make things easier. There will still be various tweaks with minor individual default application settings (most likely icons as well). I’m sure there’s a lot more stuff I’m forgetting between the nightly releases that I have been testing that has changed.
