Mind the Time Description

Mind the Time is a ticker add-on for Firefox that shows time spent at the current site and total time spent on the web today. The ticker shows time in hours and minutes (H:MM / H:MM). By default it appears in the add-on bar, but you can move it. Just right-click on the add-on bar, select "Customize...", and then drag and drop the ticker to another toolbar. When time is being logged, the numbers in the ticker are black, and when time is not being logged the numbers turn grey. On the left side of the ticker there is a little black, green, or grey dot that indicates the ticker's timing mode. Clicking the ticker opens a menu that lets you change the timing mode or open the summary page. There are three timing modes:- In the default "black dot" mode, timing is automatically paused after about a minute of inactivity. Timing automatically starts again when activity resumes (when the mouse pointer moves inside the browser window, a key is pressed, or the page is scrolled).- In "green dot" mode the timer keeps timing despite periods of inactivity. This makes it easy to keep the timer on while watching videos.- In "grey dot" mode the timer is off and no time or websites are logged. When in private browsing mode no time or websites are logged, and the ticker always shows a grey "0:00 / 0:00" to indicate this. The Summary PageThe summary page shows how much time you have spent, and the sites where you have spent it, for today and the past seven days. It also includes a combined summary of all the data from the past week. A new day begins at 4am (night owl feature). All the data is stored locally on your computer and you can delete it at any time by clicking on "Preferences" at the top of the summary page, and then the button that says "Delete All Data." Data that is more than a week old is automatically deleted. If you leave the summary page open in a tab (or app tab), when you return to it the data is automatically updated. You can also choose to update the data manually by clicking "Preferences" on the summary page. To update the data manually, just click "Refresh". (Keeping the summary page open and updating it manually lets you easily see a "before" and "after" picture of how much time has been spent during a given browsing session.)Reminder MessagesMind the Time can show you periodic reminder messages (after every X minutes or hours) to help keep you aware of how much time you have spent on the web on a given day. You can turn these on and set the frequency by clicking "Preferences" on the summary page.CreditsThis add-on was largely inspired by, and began with some code from the excellent LeechBlock add-on by James Anderson. Paul Morris reworked parts of the LeechBlock code for use in Mind the Time (primarily the parts related to tracking time spent at a given domain). Many thanks to James Anderson for licensing his code to be re-used like this.No restart required!Product's homepage
