Lightweight Portable Security Linux Lightweight Portable Security (LPS) creates a secure end node from trusted media on almost any Intel-based computer (PC or Mac). LPS boots a thin Linux operating system from a CD without mounting a local hard drive. Administrator privileges are not required; nothing is installed. SPI created the LPS family to address particular use cases. LPS-Public is a general-purpose, safer solution for using web-based applications. The accredited LPS-Remote Access is only for accessing your organization's private network.LPS-Public allows general web browsing and connecting to remote networks. It includes a CAC-enabled Firefox browser, a PDF and text viewer, Java, and Encryption Wizard - Public. LPS-Public turns an untrusted system (such as a home computer) into a trusted network client. No trace of work activity (or malware) can be written to the local computer. Simply plug in your USB CAC-reader to access CAC-restricted DoD websites. Here are some key features of "LPS-Public": · This build does not include any FOUO material and as such does not contain VPN, thin client or other advanced capabilities. However, it retains the ability to use Firefox with CAC-enabled websites, run Encryption Wizard, view PDF files, connect to SSH servers, and other minor utilities. Additional features are available on request from the Software Protection Center depending upon your use case and as approved by the Software Protection Initiative Program Manager. Features that have been previously integrated and tested include: · Thin Client support (Citrix & RDP) w/CAC support · SSL VPN · Cisco IPSec VPN · Kerberos authentication · Anti-virus scanners · Document viewing applications · Virtual Machine playback (VirtualBox)
