GTK-myscan Description

GTK-myscan is a gtk frontend for several open source scanner-tools. GTK-myscan is a gtk frontend for several open source scanner-tools. It uses the cups and sane backends for scanning one or more documents from a multiple/all-in-one scanner, converts the documents to a single pdf-file and make an entry in the log-file.INSTALL (FOR DEBIAN/UBUNTU AND OTHER DEBIAN DERIVATES)Execute install.sh as su or sudo: '$ sudo ./install.sh'This will install the following files on your system:gtk-myscan.README in /usr/local/share/doc/gtk-myscan/ This fileuninstall.sh in /usr/local/share/doc/gtk-myscan/ Script for uninstallgtk-myscan.png in /usr/local/share/pixmaps/gtk-myscan/ Icongtk-myscan.desktop in /usr/local/share/applications/ Desktop file for menugtk-myscan in /usr/local/bin/ The scriptThe following files are set as executable:uninstall.shgtk-myscanThis install-script will NOT install the following dependencies:zenity (Display graphical dialog boxes from shell scripts)scanimage (a part of the imagemagick package)convert (a part of the sane-utils package)ps2pdf (a part of the gs-common package)pdftk (see http://www.accesspdf.com/pdftk)sed (The GNU sed stream editor)If you run gtk-myscan without the dependencies in your path you will be prompted by gtk-myscan, and you will have to install all of them before you can run the script.Install all of the dependencies with: '$ sudo apt-get install zenity imagemagick sane-utils gs-common sed' '$ wget http://ftp.no.debian.org/debian/pool/main/p/pdftk/pdftk_1.40-2_i386.deb' '$ sudo dpkg -i pdftk_1.40-2_i386.deb'Support for other distributions is unfortunately not supported at this moment.UPGRADEIf you upgrade gtk-myscan to a newer version, you don't have to uninstall the older version as the upgrade will overwrite the old files by default. The config- and log-files are NOT overwritten. If you have removed the config and log files, a new set is installed when you run gtk-myscan for the first time.UNINSTALLRun uninstall.sh in /usr/local/share/doc/gtk-myscan/ as su or sudo: '$ cd /usr/local/share/doc/gtk-myscan/' '$ sudo ./uninstall.sh'This will remove all the installed files, but NOT the config and log file installed when you first run gtk-myscan. If you would like to remove the config and log-file as well, you can run (from a terminal): '$ rm -r $HOME/.gtk-myscan/'NEW HARDWARE (INSTALLED A NEW SCANNERDEVICE)If you have installed a new scannerdevice remove the config-file and rerun gtk-myscan: '$ rm $HOME/.gtk-myscan/gtk-myscan.confSUPPORT** Missing dependencies (Error: msr001)Install all the dependencies with: '$ sudo apt-get install zenity imagemagick sane-utils gs-common sed' '$ wget http://ftp.no.debian.org/debian/pool/main/p/pdftk/pdftk_1.40-2_i386.deb' '$ sudo dpkg -i pdftk_1.40-2_i386.deb'** Can't get scanimage to work (Error: msr002)1. Inspect the configuration-file gtk-myscan.conf. '$ cat $HOME/.gtk-myscan/gtk-myscan.conf2. The device listed in gtk-myscan.conf should correspond to the output of the command: '$ scanimage -L'3. If it doesn't please cut the device-name (the text between the ` and ') from scanimage and past it on the top-line in gtk-myscan.conf. Ex: hpaio:/usb/HP_LaserJet_3052?serial=00CNSKN09261. Save gtk-myscan.conf, and then restart gtk-myscan.4. If 'scanimage -L' gives you an error-message (or nothing at all), your scanner is not supported and/or not set up correctly with cups. If so, please checkout http://www.cups.org. You will not be able to use gtk-myscan until your scanner is set up correctly with cups.
