DSLR stands for Damn Small Linux Remake and it’s an open source Linux kernel-based operating system that aims to be as low on resources as possible, transforming old computers into up-to-date and performant machines. It’s available for 32-bit and 64-bit hardware platforms The DSLR operating system is available for 32-bit and 64-bit hardware platforms, downloadable as Live CD ISO image of approximately 100MB in size, deployable on CD discs or a USB thumb drives. The standard ISOs support UEFI computers, but you can download two other ISO images that don't include UEFI support. It’s a distribution of Linux for advanced users Damn Small Linux Remake has been designed from the ground up to be used by advanced Linux users. The Live CD ISO image doesn't feature a boot menu and automatically start the live system from the moment the users boots the ISO image from the BIOS of a PC. Comes pre-loaded with useful applications Despite the fact that the ISO image has only 100MB in size, the operating system comes pre-loaded with a wide range of open-source, libre and useful software packages that have been optimized for 64-bit computers. Among some of the pre-installed applications, we can mention that Ted rich text processor, Dillo web browser, Siag spreadsheet editor, XChat IRC client, mtPaint graphics editor, Sylpheed email client, Beaver text editor, as well as the GNU xhippo playlist manager. The graphical desktop environment looks familiar, low on resources Being designed from the ground up to be as low on resources as possible, the DSLR Linux distribution uses a minimal and lightweight graphical desktop environment that comprises of a single taskbar located on the bottom edge of the screen. The taskbar can be used to easily navigate the main menu, launch applications, cycle between virtual workspaces, as well as to interact with running programs and the functions implemented in the system tray area.
