AVM ETS Description

AVM ETS is a collection of shell scripts built into a live Linux distribution (Slax). AVM ETS is a collection of shell scripts built into a live Linux distribution (Slax). What is ETS ? ETS stands for Ethernet Test Suite providing means for testing Ethernet link performance to dummy users. It’ s ultimate goal at creation was to replace costly Ethernet testers in troubleshooting and validation processes. It really lived up to it’ s task at the company I’ m currently employed, saving a lot of money and making life easier for the people in the field. At this point it is known to be used in many European countries for Ethernet Private Line validation testing. What is it made of ? The scripts are quite simple (I am no programmer) but manage to do the job. The live Linux distribution used is Slax, with Fluxbox instead of KDE, keeping the tool light and the iso small. The throughput test scripts make use of the excellent Iperf tool to measure performance. The live statistics are done with Conky. All software used is 100% OpenSource. Who built it ? I did, Alain Van Messen. I have been working in the ICT business for over 10 years now, mostly in network troubleshooting functions. This is how the need for a cheap, easy and effective tool gave birth to this linux distribution. What can I use it for ? · Measure point to point packet loss · Measure packet loss against any IP device· Measure packet loss on a routed IP network· Measure point to point UDP and TCP throughput· Measure UDP and TCP throughput on a routed IP network Requirements: · Any PC or laptop with at least 48Mb memory, a CD-ROM drive and an Ethernet interface should be able to run the test suite just fine. A floppy (or USB floppy) is required to save test results to a formatted text file. (Microsoft WordPad)
